The order matters. Some steps unlock others: a Social Security Number makes credit-building and some rentals easier, a local address makes a driver's license and bank account easier, and a bank account makes almost everything else easier.
Work through it as a sequence, not a scramble. Most of it is procedural once you know the order.

Social Security Number
If you are eligible, apply as early as your status allows. It is a prerequisite for many everyday processes, including some rental applications and most credit products.

Bank account and driver license or state ID
A local bank account and a Texas driver license or state ID typically require proof of address and identity documents. Confirm the current document list with the bank and the Texas DPS before you go, since requirements can change.

Utilities, schools, and credit
